Latest Fleet Updates of Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific

As of 2024, Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Cebu Pacific have undertaken significant initiatives to modernize and expand their fleets, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and passenger experience.

Philippine Airlines (PAL):

  • Fleet Expansion and Modernization: PAL has committed to acquiring nine Airbus A350-1000 XWB aircraft, scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2029. These aircraft are intended for deployment on North American routes, offering enhanced capacity and fuel efficiency.

  • Aircraft Retrofit Program: To standardize its fleet and improve passenger amenities, PAL plans to retrofit 18 Airbus A321ceo aircraft starting in mid-2025. The retrofit will include the installation of in-flight entertainment systems and new seating configurations, aligning with the airline's service enhancement goals.

  • Wet-Lease Agreement: In May 2024, PAL entered into a wet-lease agreement with Wamos Air for two Airbus A330-200 aircraft. This arrangement commenced on June 1, 2024, and was extended until January 2025, to support operations on routes to Sydney and Melbourne.

Cebu Pacific:

  • Major Aircraft Order: In July 2024, Cebu Pacific signed a preliminary agreement with Airbus for the purchase of up to 152 aircraft, valued at approximately $24 billion. This includes firm orders for up to 102 Airbus A321neo jets and purchase rights for 50 A320neo jets. The deal is designed to provide Cebu Pacific with flexibility to adapt fleet growth to market conditions.

  • Fleet Expansion Plans: Cebu Pacific aims to more than double its fleet by 2035, responding to the anticipated travel boom in Southeast Asia post-pandemic. The airline plans to increase its fleet from 64 Airbus and 14 ATR aircraft to 92 by the end of 2024.

Both Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific are actively investing in fleet expansion and modernization to meet growing travel demand and enhance service quality. These strategic initiatives reflect the airlines' commitment to maintaining competitiveness in the dynamic aviation industry.
