The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has bolstered its fleet with the delivery of 10 more Black Hawk helicopters, marking a significant step in the country’s ongoing military modernization program. The arrival of these aircraft, manufactured by Polish company PZL Mielec, a Lockheed Martin subsidiary, brings the total number of Black Hawks in the PAF’s inventory to 36.

This fleet expansion aims to enhance the PAF’s airlift and disaster response capabilities. According to defense officials, these versatile helicopters will play a critical role in troop transport, medical evacuation, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief operations. The PAF’s Chief, Lt. Gen. Stephen Parreño, emphasized the importance of these additions in strengthening national security and improving the country’s ability to respond to emergencies.
The Black Hawk helicopters are equipped with advanced avionics and systems, allowing them to operate in challenging conditions and diverse terrains. Their large capacity and operational flexibility make them ideal for the Philippines’ unique geographical and security needs.
The acquisition is part of the AFP’s modernization efforts under Republic Act 10349, which seeks to upgrade the country’s defense capabilities. The delivery of these helicopters is also a testament to the strong partnership between the Philippines and Lockheed Martin, with training programs provided to ensure effective operation and maintenance of the fleet.
The PAF continues to prioritize the modernization of its assets to address both external and internal security challenges, while also enhancing its role in humanitarian and disaster response missions.
